Treasurer Receives Prestigious 90+ Award
For the fourth year in a row, Beaufort County Treasurer Maria Walls, CPA, has been honored with the esteemed 2023 90+ cashVest Award, recognizing her exemplary leadership in public finance liquidity management.
This recognition is earned by only 22% of public finance offices, highlighting excellence in maximizing the value of taxpayer money. This award is provided by the National Association of Counties (NACo) in conjunction with three+one, a specialized national financial-technology company that analyzes public sector cash-management practices. It focuses on maximizing the utilization of every taxpayer dollar with data-informed decisions, ensuring optimal benefits for communities across the country.
“To date, our earnings are the equivalent of avoiding a 13.1% tax increase. Every investment dollar we earn is a dollar that didn’t need to come from our taxpayer’s pocket.”

By maintaining a cashVest score of 90 or above for four consecutive quarters, Treasurer Walls has demonstrated her commitment to effective cash management, improving financial stability, and ensuring responsible stewardship of public resources.
